Burnt Mountain - 2023
Burnt
In the heart of Carrabassett valley Maine, lies the approximate 2,960 ft. Burnt Mountain. Named after a wild forest fire that spread in the early 1900's the vegetation never grew back leaving the summit exposed with a 360 view. It was a beautiful warm mid summers day, with a cooling breeze at the top. It was nice and private, with only a handful of others summiting the mountain.
Starting in the main sugarloaf parking lot, the trail head can be tricky to find. Keep left, you will cross a wooden bridge and pass condominiums. The trail head will be the first on the right when you come onto the gravel road. The ascend was a 2,287 foot elevation gain. The out and back trail is pretty straight forward and easy to stay on track following the blue trail marker. The moving time was 3:22:28 and was around 6.16 mi.
Overall it was a fairly easy trek, and nice and quiet at the top. The views are spectacular and definitely worth the calories burned.
